79 Trans Am engine parts

I have a 1979 Trans Am and I'm looking to restore the engine. It's a VIN "K" with an oldmobile 403 engine. I was wondering, are parts from other oldmobile 403 engines of the same year interchangable (ex. cutlass, 442, etc.) or was this oldmobile 403 specifically designed for the Trans Am?

Which parts are you looking for? Check for casting numbers if you are looking for heads, cranks and rods. Check engine specs for different cars using the same motor, if the specs are different then there are some different parts. As for external parts, visually compare them to the ones you have on your motor, some things like exhaust manifolds and the intake manifold may or may not be different.

if u were planning on restoring the engine u might as well just go ahead and buy a 400. 220 HP vs. the 403's 185 or so.....or u could good balls out and find yourself a 455 if u arnt so worried bout gas prices...i put in a 400 and rebuilt the entire engine..found all aluminum parts for it. new intake, carb, crank, cam, heads, it set me back a pretty penny but now im sittin round 350-360 horse under the hood of my '79.
