With that engine rebuild you replaced the timing belt right? Because if so I bet the belt slipping would only be 40% likely. When you press the gas without being in gear do you hear the engine rev at all? Also do you hear any new, weird sounds comming from the engine or exhaust? And lastly...clutch replacement. Have you replaced the clutch recently? You sure the clutch isn't slipping and needs to be replaced? Just know that what the mechanic says isn't always right...

Re: engine blown great!!!!!!!!!!

if your timing belt slipped or broke, you would most likely know it lol. our engines are interference engines so the valves would smash into the top of the pistons and make a loud noise and the car would just die. A timing belt doesnt USUALLY snap in half, the teeth on it usually get worn and break off causing the belt to slip and mess everything up. what your describing sounds like a possible t-belt but hopefully not! Good luck!

Re: engine blown great!!!!!!!!!!

Why don't you do a compression test and then a leak down test if necessary. You can do a compression test yourself for about $20.
