How to Reattach Trunk Torsion Bar?
Hi folks.
I managed to accidentally unhook the torsion bar in the trunk of my 1995 Grand Prix (3.1 liter, if that matters for any reason...). I messed with it briefly to try to hook it back up, but it was difficult to mess with while using one hand to hold the trunk open. A friend tells me that I need to get in the trunk, close the trunk, and then hook it back up (and no, I don't think he's just trying to be a wise guy...). It seems to me that it would be "tense" when the trunk is closed, and loose when the trunk is open, since the idea is to hold the trunk open and not pull it closed, and that I should really be attempting this with the trunk all the way open. Which is correct? If anyone has any advice it would be most welcome. I guess I can see where the hook should go on the driver's side, with the lever part that presses on the trunk lid hinge, but I can't for the life of me figure out how it hooks on the passenger side. I tried searching around the Internet for answers (and maybe photos?) but didn't have much luck. Thanks in advance. G.-- |

I was wondering the same thing, I actually want to tighten the ones in mine, when I pop the trunk in my mothers grand am the trunk opens nicely, in my GP however it just pops and you have to lift it yourself, not that I'm lazy but it would help if I was carrying something, you know, it would just be nice.
But with the torsion bars under tension I'm affraid to tuch them. |
