Lebaron Questions
I am picking up an 89 lebaron gtc. It is a convert., 5 spd, 16" wheels, 4 wheel disc, leather seats etc. My question is: I am not sure if it is a 2.2 or 2.5, i've read that the 2.5 gtc only came in auto. Is this true, or could it have a 2.5 turbo spd. I'm hoping its the 2.2 TII.

well, the 2.5 is the 2.2 stroked so the bell housing is the same. If you look under the hood there will be a sticker that tells the engine size.

In 1989 the Turbo I could be had with the A-413 automatic or the A-520 five-speed manual. So just because it is a five-speed doesn't mean it is a Turbo II. There are a lot of ways you can tell a Turbo I from a Turbo II. The Turbo I has a silver valve cover and intake manifold while the Turbo II has a black valve cover and intake manifold. The Turbo II did only come with a five-speed but it was the Getrag forged A-555. If you can get a look at the side of the transmission A-555 should be stamped on the side if it is a Turbo II. The easiest way to tell is to see if the car has an intercooler or not. It will have a pipe going to it from the intake. It will be on top of the radiator next to the overflow and it will look like a small radiator itself.
If you still can't figure out if it is a Turbo II or not just post a picture of the engine bay and I'll be able to tell you. |
