I saw this question asked in another thread but can't find it to see if there was ever an answer provided, so I thought I would start a new thread. Two guages I miss having are the Ammeter and the Oil Pressure guage, with my luck the light would come on for these when its too late. So I would like to install gauges. I want to Install them in the dash of my 95 GTP (3.4L DOHC) just above the 2 HVAC vents in a compartment. My intention is to back them up with a finished peice of aluminum to make it look like they somewhat belong there.
I have a couple questions. How difficult are these 2 guages to install? Where is the Gromet located to put the wires through the firewall? Finally, can anyone recommend a good quality guage at an affordable price? I noticed Canadian tire has Oil Pressure ones for $9.99 and $19.99, I have to ask myself how long something that cheap will last, I paid more for my wiper blades, lol.TIA Jamie |

Re: Aftermarket guages
Ammeter guages are a pain to install, I would use a Volt guage instead. Oil pressure guages come in both mechanical and electrical. Mechanical guages require tubing to be run from the engine compartment to the guage, usually nylon, that will make a HUGE mess if the tubing breaks(not a common problem, but I like to be thorough), but are more accurate. Electrical guages are easier to install, and you would have to put a tee in where your factory idiot light oil pressure sensor goes(as it is also a fuel pump shut off switch) and can't be removed/eliminated. As far as where to run the wires through the firewall, there is a grommet above the brake pedal near where the steering column goes through.
