No heat coming out at all
I have a chevy S10 v6 5-speed manual. Over the last couple months i have been having problems with my heat. I get no heat at all and i am not sure exactly what the problems is. I get a all the cold air i want whether the thermostat is on cold or hot. If anyone has an idea as to what the problem may be could you please let me know. I have been searching forums for a while now with no luck. Plus i am not sure what i am really looking for. Thanks.

What year is your truck? Can you get the air to flow out the correct vents (as in when you select "defrost" the air comes out the windshield dash vents, "heat" the air comes out the floor vents, etc)? On the older trucks, the tempurature selection is done by moving a lever connected to a cable which in turn opens/closes the plenum from the heater core. On newer vehicles I believe vacuum motors are used for all functions to include adjusting the tempurature.... You might have something as simple a broken cable connection, a vacuum motor gone bad or a vacuum line leaking or disconnnected.

Its a 2001 S10. How old is old? I guess that a 2001 would be relatively new. The air comes out of the right vents. Just all the air coming out is cold.

Might be the thermostat in the water flow is stuck wide open, but I would think you would get some luke warm air after engine running a while.

Thanks for your help by the way. But yeah i don't get any heat at all. You wouldn't happen to know where i can get a schematic or something that will tell me excactly where it is located?

Okay.... even if you had no thermostat, the coolant would eventually get warm to the point where you'd get some warmth from the heater... unless maybe you're living in Chicago and it's January. Bad coolant????? Any liquid flowing through your cooling system, whether it be ethylene glycol, water, beer or urine, is gonna get hot so I seriously doubt it's your "coolant".
'01 S10.... you probably have an electronically controlled tempurature selector..... the dash panel may be at fault (I had a bad panel that would intermittently run the A/C even when it wasn't selected). The temp control is a rheostat adjusting a control voltage. How the panel controls the amount of hot air mixed with outside "cold" air could be done using a vacuum motor or an electric servomotor..... I don't know the inner workings of your system. The best place to get a schematic of the HVAC system would be a factory service manual.... not a Chilton's or Haynes.... as this is just a bit above the needs of the driveway mechanic. You could also try the local dealership parts department.... they have system diagrams as part of the computer-based parts catalog..... you should be able to get a blow up and a copy..... Sorry I don't have a definite "here's what you do to fix this" answer..... mike
