Completed Tron Ferrari 166 Uovo
This is the Tron 1/24 resin kit of Giannino Marzotto's 1951 Ferrari 166MM Uovo rebodied by Fontana after a crash. The car is known as the "uovo" or "egg" in Italian because of it's unique shape. I built the kit out of box and finished it with Tamiya lacquer inside and out. My aim was to capture the look of a 50's Auto Salon show car. I guess it was successful. Nice to finally complete one of my hundreds of projects.

Wow, that's cool. Love the wire wheels. Is the grill photo-etch? Never seen this kit before.

Re: Completed Tron Ferrari 166 Uovo
Thanks for the kind words. The wire wheels and grill are photo etched. I wish the knock-offs weren't, they would be better if they were a thicker material.

Re: Completed Tron Ferrari 166 Uovo
Thanks again for the compliments. Tron is an Italian resin kit manufacturer. They use a resin similar to MFH/S27 this produces very nice smooth castings. The engraving is very heavy however. It would take a million coats of paint to fill their panel lines. Kurz

Re: Completed Tron Ferrari 166 Uovo
This is a current kit, but I have to disagree about hte similarity in quality with MFH/S27. Tron quality is simply non-existent. Yes, it still can be built into a nice model, but it will require much more work that with MFH kits. And the detail level is nowhere near.
Having said that, you did a superb job. I don't think the actual car was ever painted in this color, or had whitewalls, but it sure does look interesting, and very nice.

Re: Completed Tron Ferrari 166 Uovo
Alex,
Thanks for the compliment. It means a lot coming from you. I think my post was unclear. I only meant to compare the texture and quality of the resin body to an MFH/S27 kit. The body is nice, the wheels OK too but the rest of the kit is pretty much garbage. Overall not even close to the MFH Ferrari 275 GTB I'm currently building. You are correct, the car was never finished in this way. I believe two-tone silver/blue and red are the only colours this car has been finished in. Kurz |
