Re: towing an automatic

The Scort needs to be towed with the front wheels off the ground to prevent damage to the transaxle. The reason being that the tranny has a pump that lubricates the transaxle by power from the input shaft on the engine. If it were being pulled the front pump wouldn't turn. The only transmissions that had a rear pump being driven by the wheels were the 2 speed powerglides built in the 50's and 60's. It was safe to pull them with the wheels on the ground. I think it is all right to pull a manual transaxpe because they have no pump to lubricate. The lulbrication takes place by the splashing of the lubricant itself. If you are going to pull an automatic it is reccomended that a wheel lift be used.
