IAC cleaning 2.4L '01 SE

I've read that cleaning the IAC can help solve idle problems. However, I do not know where the IAC is located. I have a 2.4L grand am, and any guidance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone in advance.

Re: IAC cleaning 2.4L '01 SE

Welcome to the forum. The IAC motor is located in the top of the throttle body. It is held in by 2 star-screws. Remove them, remove the IAC motor, clean the spindle end with throttle body cleaner, and clean the entire throttle body / throttle plate itself. If it was infact, IAC motor/TB related, a thorough cleaning of both with TB cleaner should fix it. If it's dirty enough, you'll probably have to flush the cavity in the TB several times with the cleaner, and go over the rubber / spring on the motor several times.

Re: IAC cleaning 2.4L '01 SE

After removing the IAC and cleaning the body and the plunger, I reinstalled the IAC and the engine continued to idle fast. Question: while the engine is running, and I disconnect the wiring harness from the IAC unit, should I expect any change in the engine idle while the wiring harness remains disconnected?

Yes, it should change. If you have a "fast" idle, (high), not neccesarily bouncy; it may be TPS or MAF related, rather then IAC.

I'm novice, so I was wondering what MAF and TPS stood for. Also, the idle is relatively consistent and is running around 1600 rpm.
