used gauge cluster

So I purchased a used gauge cluster, has 60k on it, my ride has same miles which is why I got it but mine has burnt out crap!!! I've installed it and it shows a call sign of "RESCUE". I'm assuming this means the ride I got the cluster off was in a wreck and the onstar kicked that crap in.

Whatever happened my ride doesnt start with this cluster in.

Anyone know if I have to have Lincoln hook up and clear that code or if there is another way.

I've tried the battery cable removal, no go.

Also tried clearing through my scan tool, but no go as well.

Any conclusions would be of the greatest assistance. Thanks for your time and any help given.

What you have experienced is that the PCM thinks the car has been tampered with. The instrument gauge is specifically programmed for your car's computer. So, with that being said it will not start. You car will not start even if you put the old one back in now. Your only option is to have it towed to the dealer and have them re-program the gauge cluster and PCM. This isn't going to be a cheap repair.

Re: used gauge cluster

Actually it starts fine w/ the old cluster, everything works the same as before, its all good.

As for the cost, I don't care!!! Money is not an object. Just some opinions on how to make it work is all.

Thanks for all the heads up. So a dealer can reprom it w/ computer? I've got a $7k Snap On computer that won't do it whats the difference, programming? If so where can I obtain this programming?

I'm a Honda mechanic (honda cars---day)/International mechanic (diesel semi---night) so I know how to use most any program on the market. Just gotta obtain it. Maybe I'll call Lincoln and check on the program, hell maybe my Snap On rep has that crap, I'll see him tomorrow!!!

What you have to do is take your LS to the dealer with the old cluster installed. Bring the old cluster with you and they can do the swap. Basically they have to de-program the old cluster so that they can program the new one. They may have to re-program the PCM. I haven't had this done but I know of one other person that tried this and the only way to get it to work is to the have the dealer do it.
