Bad situation

I have a 04 Silverado 5.3L. The other night I went to get something out of my truck and then locked the doors with my remote. Well apparently that scared a cat sleepeing on the frame under my truck. I heard a loud popping sound, like a short circuit or a light bulb blowing out, and saw the cat run away shaking itself off. I thought it sounded like the cat had shorted out something under there, but everything ran OK. About a week later the ABS module, which mounts on the frame, went out, maybe just a coincidence, maybe not.

Here is the bad part, the Chevy place has had it for a week now and say they cannot find the part to fix the truck. All they have to do is plug it in once they get it, but they cannot get one. I don't know what the problem is, I mean its an 04 under warrenty, and they say they cannot get the part from GM, now there talking to other dealers in other states to try to find one.

Is this a common problem? I have not read any posts about it before. I'm wondering if they sold out or if there is no demand so no one stocks them.

Re: Bad situation

Hell, I've been dealing with a dealer who has been trying to get a part for my truck, which is under warranty for over a week now. I dunno what's going on.

I'd like to find the cat, but it took off pretty fast after the shock.

They set me up with a Trailblazer. Its alright but not as nice as my Silverado.

I'd tell em to go grab one off an '05 in the lot. I once had a dealer take a gear out of another car's manual transmission when they couldn't get a part for my car fast enough.

Did you ever think that an 05 part might not work?
Whenever possible, we try to down a new vehicle to keep the customer on the road.
It is not uncommon for some parts to become difficult to find for a number of reasons.
Usually the parts department can contact GM and put a special order in for the part so when it becomes available, your vehicle will be the first to get one.

With all respect to GMMerlin, dr_of_lovephd said that GM could not get the part he needed. If that's what they really said than that's totally unacceptable. We pay a lot of hard earned $$$ for these trucks and to hear that parts are not available is not an option. This is 2005 for God's sake! We've sent men to the moon but a giant like GM can't sock parts to keep a pickup on the road?

So you're saying you know for a fact that the ABS module is changed from 04's to 05's?

Didn't say is was acceptable, but a fact of life.
There are thousands of vendors that supply parts to the thousands of vendors that supply parts to GM (make sense?)
If one vendor has a problem with one of the parts they supply, then the whole system stops.
What if a valve for the ABS module was made in Mexico and shipped thru the Gulf Coast to New Orleans?
Lets see, big hurricane, everything is under water, part shipment destroyed...no parts available

It may have and that may be the reason one was not taken off.
May also have to do with dealer inventory..supply and demand. If the dealer cannot keep these trucks on the lot, then he will not remove parts off one and lose a potenial sale.

The dealers I have used in the past have shown little interest in pulling parts off new vehicles. IMO, it they aren't willing to go the extra mile in helping an EXISTING customer, then they shouldn't expect any customer loyalty.

I don't know much about inter-dealer relations, but I find it hard to believe that they couldn't find one through their dealer network and OVERNIGHT it to your dealership. Again, it seems to me like they aren't trying very hard if they've had your truck for a week.

Are you a loyal customer? Do you see the dealer for all your services and any other automotive need outside the warranty period or are you the “loyal” customer that purchased a vehicle and expects the dealer to bend over backwards for you everytime you roll in the door (I demand a rental, I demand my vehicle back in 1 hour. I know these customers were here first..but I demand your full attention) while the Quick Lube sticker from Joes lube shop hangs off the windshield? Only to never be seen again once the warranty expires on your vehicle.
Most dealers are willing to go the extra mile and many times I have downed a new vehicle to keep a LOYAL customer on the road ( you know, the customer that I know by name because I see all their vehicles in for service….even if they didn’t purchase the vehicle from my dealer)
And depending on the customers attitude and treatment of my service personnel, I will go out of the way to help them out.

You are right, you don’t know about inter-dealer relations.
They may have tried and there were none available or if the other dealer was smart (and knew that the part was hard to get), they would have kept one on their shelf for their loyal customers…Good Business.
There are times where parts get difficult to find and they have to be backordered. (read my post above)
You know the dealer can’t shit a part at will (although you may believe they can) and it may take some time…I have had vehicles down for weeks waiting on a part to arrive and have done everything in my power to get the part. It doesn’t make good business sense to leave a customer hanging while you try to resolve their concern.

Man, I took my truck in to get the belt replaced, and they did. Well, they replaced it with the wrong belt because it would not catch in the buckle. The new belt has a smaller buckle like the back seats. So, now, they provided me with a rental Impala and are keeping the truck on the lot (they won't let it leave without a working driver's seatbelt) until they get the correct part and get it fixed. The Impala drives like a turd compared to my truck. Ride is smoother, but the car has no power.
