Hi, I wonder if I could get some expert advice from somebody in here, please!
When my 3.8L non super charged engine (110,000 mi) goes under load (like trying to accelerate in the 4th gear going 60 MPH at 2000 RPM, going uphill on the freeway ramp in the same 4th gear 50 MPH at 1700 RPM w/o having gear shift down) the taco needle would chuggle a bit like +/-100 RMP and no sensible accelaration of the car would occur. That will be until higher than 2300 RPM are achieved. I got new spark plugs and wires, air and fuel filters--made no difference. No DTC's and emissions test is perfect. Since I have a buddy with somewhat lesser milage but exact same car and symptoms (!!) I figured it must me a known issue. Please assist in trouble shooting this problem. Thanks in advance! |

Re: Grand Prix GT (2000) loss of engine power
It sounds like a TCC solenoid going bad. When you step on the gas at that speed, the TCC should disengage the torque converter lock-up to allow the car to gain RPM. Without the converter unlocking, it's similar to trying to accelerate a stick shift car in 5th gear from 40mph without downshifting.
