Question transmission goes in gear but won't move ????????

Hello thanks for reading this... i'm working on a 86 monte carlo with a 305, 4bbl, atuomatic transmission, rwd. Ok now the problem is when you put it in gear it will go in it you can feel it hit everytime but when you try to go it won't unless you rev it way up then it barely moves as if it was low on tranny fluid but i checked that and it was perfect. The owner changed the filter and fluid thinking this would help but it didn't at all so i was thinking the torque converter possible took a crap?? it's a 200?Tranny is not the one you have to adjust the bands at fluid change. could you help me what do you think the problem is or what to do???

thank a lot

u sure its acually going into first? cause you might have stripped ur 1st and gear gear clutch plates like i did. When i fried my plates I was starting off in 3rd and it was creeping up to about 20 then i had a lil bitmore go.

i jurks really hard when you quickly run the shifter to the spot like for ex.p-n,n-r,n-d,n-2,n-1,n-p
if you know what i mean like its really low om fluid wont make it up to 20

Re: transmission goes in gear but won't move ????????

well, since the owner changed out the fluid and filter, there went your best diagnostic tool(s) for this.

How many miles are on this thing?

Did you check the vacuum mudulator and cable out? Mostly, check the modulator vacuum line for any signs of trans fluid. If that checks out, check the cable all the way up to the carb for any braekage or if it's way out of adjustment.

Worth a try anyways.
