Thumbs down Evil ABS Light

Starting just the other day, My ABS light is now deciding to permantly be on. (2000 Police Package car for a change) The brakes appear to work fine, i'm assuming my ABS is disabled somehow, likely a bad sensor, havn't bothered getting it checked yet, mostly because whenever the ABS did kick in, it sounded god-awful.

I'm just curious if I should be concerned about this light, if it just means no ABS, thats not really a down-side. Basically, anyone know what problems trigger the ABS light?

Re: Evil ABS Light

Needs to be scanned for the abs code to begin the diagnosis, lite on kills only the abs.

Re: Evil ABS Light

I would bet that you have a bad wheel speed sensor in one of your hub bearings.

I'll let you know Wednesday.

Fun weekend, had both out-tie rods replaced and 2 tires that managed to attract nails. Wasn't too bad though... $40 for tires, $80 for Tie-Rods

Results are back from the Dealer, only took them 5 hours to find what was wrong. Whole ABS Module is "fried". . . Quoting me $760 for a new unit.

I now have a Impala with no Traction Control, ABS or A/C. Now if I just lose the pesky Airbags, i'll be living in 1980 again.

After having mine in for the diagnostic, the light has been off now.

I'm not sure what they did to do so.

Pull the ABS unit and pump? If you have any mechanic friends i'm sure they can do it. Hardest part would be making sure the ABS light doesn't come back on.
