92 Civic Fan Motor Not Turning On

I have a 92 Civic LX with a 1.5 and the fan motor is not turning on like it should. I have read a few other posts about the same problem and I've already tried everything listed. Here's my steps:

1.) Ran a jumper wire from the battery to the fan motor. The fan motor turns on.
2.) Replaced the thermostat
3.) Replaced the coolant temp switch (sits on the thermostat housing)
4.) Replaced all fuses for fan motor (1 under hood and 1 under dash)
5.) Replaced the radiator fan motor relay

Fan motor still won't come on. Did a self-diagnostic check (by shorting out the 2 wire connector under the passenger side dash under glove box). Returned a trouble code 6 (coolant temp sensor circuit failure). I checked the voltage of the coolant temp sensor wire (red/white) and it has ~5 volts (as it should according to a Haynes manual). Checked continuity on the coolant temp sensor and the resistance is showing where is "should" be both for cold and operating temp. I've checked the wire from the fan motor to the fuse box and it doesn't seem to be frayed or shorted or anything.

The only thing left to replace that I know of is the coolant temp sensor (just under the distributor cap). On those models is the fan motor fuse (under the hood) before or after the relay. According to the Haynes diagram it looks like the fuse is after the relay.

Any other ideas? What about continuity on the coolant temp switch (thermostat housing)? Is it the temp switch or temp sensor that controls the fan motor turning on?

Re: 92 Civic Fan Motor Not Turning On

could quite possibly be the coolant temperature sensor. i had to switch my brothers out twice. could be the fuse but it depends on where and how you tested the fan. you might want to do a flush also of your coolant and the whole damn radiator. if it's build up from someones sludge who owned the car before you, that'll definately send some haywire fan functions. good luck...

Turn your car key on, make a jumper between the two cables that goes to the thermal switch in the thermostat housing.

If you jump de two cables and the fan motor start then the problem is the temp switch, if it does not start the problem is the cable circuit (12V).

Re: 92 Civic Fan Motor Not Turning On

Well I had already replaced the temp switch. I replaced the temp sensor yesterday and it didn't cure the problem. Ran another self-diagnostic test on it and it's returning that the ECM is faulty. Thinking of taking it to a shop (or even worse, a dealership) to run a complete test and see what the problem is. For the time being I think I'll run a wire from a 12V switched source to the fan motor to get me by (so it will at least turn on).

Just in case has anyone had any luck (good or bad) with remanufactured ECM's (like they sell in auto parts stores)?
