Dont know whats wrong
The other day i drove my 91 300zx in a rain storm and it just died on me.
I got it towed to a shop and the starter died but that didnt fix it. He think the connecting rod broke but i talked to another person that used to work in the nissan service department that doesnt think that the connecting rod would break that easy. I definatly didnt hear anything snap either. The car just died on me. I tried push starting it and it tried to turn over but wouldn't. Any ideas, please help Thanx, Ben |

yeah, try replacing the starter relay. its a $10 little blue box hiden behind the inner drivers side fender cover. trust me

sounds like your engine became water-locked. but pray to god that didnt happen because that siezes up your engine.

It doesnt sound like your engine is hydro-locked. You would have had to hit a DEEP puddle for that to have happend. But it does sound like the wet weather did make other things fail, check your starter relay. Then check your ignition system make sure that your....... brain fart, cant remember what there called, the power booster, things, that always fail on earlier Zs. Someone can tell you what they are called. But they will cause this problem too. Sorry cant be more help.

well upon reading your post again i dont think its the starter relay at all. If it tries to turn over the starter is getting power. if u turn the key and get absolutely nothing then id say the relay is out, but if it does try to turn over keep looking cuz it wont be the relay.

Check your relays and fuses... It doesn't sound like it got Hyrdo-Locked. It is probably something simple, so don't stress it too badly

i think Hodo was referring to the PTU (Power Transistor Unit).
it was in recall in the earlier Z's. make sure you have a sticker under your hood signifying that you did indeed have this replaced. if not, call the local nissan dealership with your VIN number in hand and they will see if your car qualifies for the recall. this is a very common problems in the earlier Z's. it's failure acts just like you described. sudden power loss and then it dies, then it will not start again. have the shop that its at test it with a multimeter and see if the OHMs are within spec according to the Z32 bible. ![]() good luck man.

yeah... and unless you have a DOOLZ kit, you'd need to prettymuch drive the car into a lake for that to happen...

The mechanic said there was water in the engine, i also herd the timming gear might be screwd idk i'm hearing a lot of things.

yeah, sometimes they'll spit a lot of information at you to try and confuse you so you spend money you don't have to... mechanics are a hungry breed... well most of them... hodo is a good guy

timing gear? find a new mechanic. do not spend anymore money with that guy, he sounds real iffy about his details. a mechanic not fooling around will tell you exactly what is the problem and how much he charges to fix it. he wont beat around the bush.

Thanx K3, I could for the life of me not remember the name of it.
Like I said though check your PTU. Because thats about exactly what it sounds like. Its ALOT cheaper than replacing a dropped valve or gettin butt raped without the benifit of a reach around by some blood thirsty shade tree mechanic. And as the others said, I am a nice technician, I give my victims.... I mean customers a kiss on the neck to let them know when I am comming. LOL.
