clutch & cables 90 altima

Dear friends,

i have a 90 altima 5 speed 4 cylinder

I am experiencing minor jerks when changing from frist to second - is it the clutch that is wearing off??

how do i know if my clutch is dying??

how do i go about fixing the speedo cable to get it working??

the parking lights come on occassonally what could be wrong??

on turning lights on the lights remain on but the dash lights go OFF and when driving after going in a small bump or two the dash light com ON where could the fault be??

any service manual on the net which i can download.

ur help in any of the above will be much appreciated.

cheers!!

Re: clutch & cables 90 altima

If your clutch slips a little when you shift. If the clutch slips when you accelerate in 5th gear. If the clutch pedal is getting harder to push and hold down. If you push on the clutch arm with your hand and the slave cyl. is nearly bottomed out. The clutch is worn out. The jerking could be from collapsed damper springs in the clutch disc, oil on the disc, or worn out motor mounts that let the engine move too much, especially if you have manual clutch linkage.

Do you have a speedo cable or is it electric? Buy a new cable and housing or remove the cable core and make a new one using a speedo cable kit.

The parking light problem is probably the headlight switch. Check for a bad ground connection near the switch. Check all your lights.

You should be able to purchase a repair manual for whatever your car is for under $15. Maybe not. Maybe the 93-2002 Altima manual will help or another 1990 model would be closer.

Ask for help from Rock Auto on parts and a manual. Altimas were not sold in the U.S. until 1993. What does a 1990 Altima look like? What kind of engine? Must be FWD? Is the clutch hydraulic? Has it spent much time near the coast?

Re: Re: clutch & cables 90 altima

Thanks for the reply.

will check on the tips u have given me. the speedo is cable.

the 90 altima looks much different compared to the US models.

the front & sides look good to stand along with the new generation cars the rear is a bit ugly but looks ok with a spoiler.

its a RWD, hydraulic clutch, ya and bahrain being an island its spent all its time in saline conditions although it has not been driven on the shore.

will upload some pics in a couple of days.

cheers
