Oil Light

I've got a 97 3400 Transport and the oil light is flickering when idling @ normal temp. The motor seems to be loping @ idle as well. Any hints to what is wrong?

Re: Oil Light

Oil light means low pressure. The oil pump is driven directly off of the cam shaft so a low idle speed could drop the oil pressure dangerously low. It also could be a faulty oil pump, failed pressure relief valve at the pump stuck open, or a faulty oil pressure sensor.

Re: Oil Light

Donno on that. Could be one of many different things. Failing coil, faulty plug or wire, stuck EGR, low fuel pressure or clogged injector, MAP/MAF sensor failing, vacuum hose unhooked/has a hole, etc...

Just replaced coil, plugs, wires, egr, fuel pump, pressure regulator, rails, injectors. Tested and OKed MAP/MAF sensor.

Also there is this very noticable click about very 3-4 sec sounds like its coming from Cyl. 6. I have checked the knock sensor and seems to be functional. There was no abnormal wear on the plug when changed.

Re: Oil Light

Have you done a compression test? You may have a cylinder going bad causing both the low oil pressure and the loping at idle.
