OBX Helical LSD

First of all, OBX sux. lol I've stayed away from all OBX products in the past. However, I just heard about the OBX LSD... It has the same Helical design as the Quaiffe... Infact, I heard that some guy took both a Quaiffe and OBX LSD apart and found that they were practically identical. I've heard of Hondas using these things for 600hp applications w/o a problem... However, that'd be about 300ft.lbs. in a Honda. lol Anyways, I was just wondering if anybody has dealt with these OBX LSDs (for the 420A Eclipse). Thanks!

Re: OBX Helical LSD

I would say bite the bullet and buy the Quaife, my opinion though.

Let OBX keep making their mufflers...

Re: OBX Helical LSD

lol Their mufflers sound like hell. The only problem is that I could buy 3 OBX LSDs for the price of one Quaife LSD. How's the Quaife LSD working for you? noticable difference? How's handling now?

Re: OBX Helical LSD

I'll tell you next summer

"Future mods: Quaife"

But I have ridden in some Quaif'd dsm's and the difference is really noticable.

Re: OBX Helical LSD

So I just got a response from an eBay seller. "These probably take 500 hp and tq." Sounds like a rock solid guarantee to me!! Well, I'm putting in a different clutch, so I might as well install an LSD at the same time... I'm not really planning on much more than 400hp, so I think I'll just try it out. What the hell is another $400!! I'm still looking for any and all input about these LSDs.

i hope you have the money for a tranny. i wouldnt trust anything w/ obx, ssautochrome, etc. if you go the cheap route you have a very good chance of having to do it all over again. i have seen the phantom grips destroy trannys so i wouldnt put it past this one either. truly its not the design thats flawed(seeing as how the design was stolen from Quaife)but the quality of the materials being used. do you honestly think a subpar factory in malaysia has the same quality control standards as a modern american factory?i dont.

Re: OBX Helical LSD

There doesn't seem to be any factual information in this thread, just "it willl probably do this." Only one person has to test something for everyone else. I don't understand why so little good hard info is out there for parts. Get the OBX LSD, take it apart, take pics, test it (materials, sizes, etc), report after a while, make the official OBX LSD thread. Not that hard.

Yeah, except Quaife is in England.

Re: OBX Helical LSD

Have you looked into the KAAZ LSD? A lot of people run them with good results and they cost somewhere in the 800-900 range.
