89 lesabre- front end shimmy

1989 lesabre second owner (dad was first). Car well taken care of but I have a shimmy in the front end. Replaced tires and front struts. Symptoms are not apparent at low speeds but very apparent at higher speeds (35 to 55mph) and depending on road surface. Seems to go away at higher speeds (60 to 75mph). Feels like it may be coming from the right side but not sure. Hear intermittent ticking on right side at low speeds. After reviewing several posts, that may be a CV joint issue. I can relate this only to a bad set of idler arms I had on a company truck once. Does this vehicle have idler arms? Any help appreciated.

Re: 89 lesabre- front end shimmy

Posibilities are a ball joint, tie rod end end, or the CV joint.

To check the CV joint, drive car is a slowly in a maximum left turn - listen for clicking noises coming from the wheel. Repeat for the right wheel.

To check ball joint and tie rod end, jack the wheel up, and shake the tire for looseness (Up and down and side to side). Play up and down would indicate ball joints, play side to side indicates a tie rod end.

hello
also check for bad tire bearing.this must be done on lift with tire off, run the car see if there is play in pads<it will show up-down>movement in the pads , if the bearing is bad the caliper won`t hold pads stedy it will move cause of bad bearing.
