95 grand am brake problem
A few days ago after I had just pulled to the end of my street and was braking, my brakes seemed to let go for a second and then catch again. At this time the amber light did not come on, and I drove around the block trying to figure out the problem. After a little bit the light popped on while turning. The light is NOT blinking. The problem only occurs when the wheels are turned at least 25-35 degrees. It does not matter how little pressure I apply, I can hear a scraping sound somtimes, although not severe. It does not increase when I push the pedal harder. Not knowing much about cars I just checked the pads and lines and everything is fine. Nothing seems loose or anything. I did a few of the pressure tests my chilton guide said to do and everything works fine. I was wondering if there were any suggestions or ideas before I arrange to have a friend scan my car. My rustbucket blazer gets terrible gas mileage compared to my grand am. I am glad it turned over twice and fired right away even though its been rotting since winter =). At least one vehicle is reliable....

does the scraping sound tend to happen after you have been driving for awhile?

It happens at any point. Be it when I back out of the driveway or when I pull in after an hour of driving.

I had a similar problem a couple of years ago, lost all braking power going down a hill, pumped the hell out of it and got them back, did it again next stop. I reset the abs modulator by doing this: Unplug the 2 electrical connectors with the car OFF. Start the car, let the brakes cycle with your foot off the brakes. Abs light should be on at this point. Turn the car off, plug in the rear connector, start the car again and let the brakes cycle. Abs light should still be on. Shut the car off, plug in the front connector, start the car and let the brakes cycle. If that doesn't work, get the car scanned, its possible the abs modulator is bad, you can disconnect it at the fuse box and your brakes work like conventional brakes. Hope this helps.

I'm getting the car scanned tomarrow. When my brakes cut out it is only for a split second, and then they catch again without me moving my foot at all. I'll look into everything with my friend tomarrow. Thanks for the help.
