shifter shaking... car brownin out
Hey, ive got a 96 3.8 firebird. I have a 5 speed standard and my shifter shakes alot when driving. when i give it gas, it pulls back, when i let off it gos forward. I know they're supposed to move little bit but mine seems like it moves too much. Also when i reverse, it makes a loud high pitch noise. I've heard it on other vehicles as well but it also but again... i think its louder on mine. And when i accellerate hard, it seems like it cuts in and out. In 5th gear i only have to give a little gas for it to shake. Does this all tie intogether? or are there seperate problems? please help!
also ive had the car since july and i've never seen or heard the fans working. ive heard that they only kick on at about 220 degrees but wasnt sure if that was right. it stays mostly at about 160 but if it idles it will go to about 200 until i start moving again. is this a relay out? or does my car just not get hot enough to activate the fans? Re: general questions
Could be bad synchros or a linkage problem. The only way to really tell is to have a professional look at the car. I would make a appointment at a tranny shop and see if they are any help. Doesn't sound like a clutch issue to me. Sorry I couldn't be more help

synchros would be the first thing that comes to mind try excellerating hard
then let off the gas quickly, if this causes the trani to pop out of gear its your synchros. if not maybe your flywheel is out of round (warped) im not sure that would cause your problem. also when u reverse its normal to hear a loud wine. the rev, gear in the trans uses straight cut gears while all forward gears use helical cut gears(angled) for added strenght and less noise. as for the heat issue watch your temp its not unusual for the temp to go up a little at a stop as long as it levels out and isnt in the red your good. |
