air to refrigerant intercooler
I was wondering if anyone has used or heard of an AC system as the source for intercooling. I was thinking something along the lines of basically using an existing AC system in place of coolant for an air/water setup. I probably won't do this but I'm curious about it anyway. Anyone have any insight into why this will or won't work?

Edit: Just checked with my cousin(ASE master tech). It would be possible to do this, if you somehow managed to install an evaporator through the IC(had it built in). That would be some cold ass air, but it would take some amazing engineering. |

shouldnt be hard to loop some hard ac line through the charge pipes. or you could use a standard evaporator. only problem is that the ac is a draw on the motor. it would probably still make more power but i dont know for sure.

Well. If you just run the lines through the inter cooler piping, when the air is passing along it will get insanely cold. Damn I've actually thought of this before, but never decide on taking it to the next level...HMMMMMMMMMmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm,.....

I wonder how well your AC would work then. lol Would this be all that much better than one of those CryO2 systems that spray NO2 infront of an intercooler? Also, does anybody know what percentage of the hp the AC takes? This is an interesting thread. Props Ted!

Its been done, and has worked well. The first example that comes to mind is an RX7 built by Flaco Racing, IIRC. Around 900 HP at the wheels. The AC compressor will consume some power, but the result is still a net gain in power. You can get similar results with ice water intercoolers, but without the mess perhaps

Your right about the NO2 intercooler sprayer thing, but that only happens when you hit a switch. But with a/c lines running through, it would be a constant surge of power added to the engine, (as long as the A/C is on!!

Not to steal the thread, but I have a question along these lines. Would there be any point to using an FMIC, water/methanol injection, and an air-to-refrigerant intercooler together? lol It's extremely redundant, but would it allow me to turn the boost above 7psi on a 420A (daily driver)? ...The FMIC would be the most expensive part (which I already have). I can piece together a water injection kit and fab a sleeve to hold refrigerant around the intake piping. ...Without detination the boost could be set pretty high on stock internals. Just a thought...
