86 caprice stalls in reverse

i bought an 86 caprice about a month ago. the past 2 days, i'll be reversing and it will stall out of nowhere. the car could be running from 15 minutes to an hour and sometimes (not all the time) when i put it in reverse , it stalls out. whats the deal here? does anybody know? also, does anybody have specific instructions on how does the factory radio come out of this car? thanks a lot for your help

Re: 86 caprice stalls in reverse

Look for a vacuum leak.

As for removing the radio/AC control, there are two screws on the top of the assembly above the heater/AC control, and two on the bottom mounted vertically above the ashtray (you have to remove the ashtray). The bolts on the bottom are 7-mm head machine screws, the ones on the top should be Phillips-head screws. The biggest problem you might encounter is the pull of the A/C control cable against the control itself - this could indeed make life hard when you're trying to pull the radio/control assembly out. In that case, you can disconnect the cable at the heater door side - to get to this you will have to remove the glovebox - using the same tools you will use for the radio. There's a single 7-mm head bolt on the cable sheath holding it to the evaporator core housing - remove this and the cable itself just slips over the 'hook' on the heater door. Now the control assembly will come out easier. The radio is bolted to the assembly using 7-mm hex bolts - you'll see them, on the bottom and top of the radio. Installation is reverse of removal. It's easier than most people think. I can perform this in under 2 minutes - if some thieves would do this we wouldn't have so many smashed dashboards.

still cant get the damn radio out. the unit is hanging outta the dash, i just cant get it to let loose from the a/c / heat part... i think im just gonna wind up taking to a stereo place, im used to newer cars. hopefully i didnt fuck anything up with the heat/a/c , and hopefully if i did, they'll know about it before putting the whole dash back togeather. thanks for the reply. if anybody else has a suggestion of what might be hte reversal problem , please pots. thanks again, peace.
