2002 denali yukon xl power steering
Hello,
I'm getting when I start her up after sitting 12 plus hours, it might happen pulling out of the driveway, it might happen 1 mile down the road making a turn into a parking lot that my power steering has like a dead spot, the power steering just cuts out for a few seconds then comes back. The dealership had only one memo that to change a module which did nothing. I have already contacted Michigan and even corporate can't help because its hard to get it to happen...I'm I the only crazy one out here with this problem.. Doug

I would look at the steering wheel position sensor.
You have a variable assist PS system in your truck. If the SWPS has a bad spot in it, you may get a change in assist that would cause a flat spot like you describe.

About an hour to replace. Slide seat fully back Disconnect neg ground for at least half an hour to Disable air bags. Remove 15mm nut to separate steering shaft just before it goes through firewall under the dash. Push shaft off towards, (through the) fire wall. The device is in a grey housing concentric to the shaft, Carefully work back the three plastic clips and the disk will come free Carefully remove locker (a plastic insert) and unclip junction to device lead. Slide off disk The plug will slide out if you tease it through carefully. Clean shaft with electronic cleaner Install new sensor the brass goes towards the steering wheel. There is a slot in the top of the gray housing to locate the wires Tease the coupling back into position reattach and insert lock Click the sensor in place Reinstall shaft and bolt. |
