ac worked one sec, next, nothing....

I have a 95 gt, 68,000 miles. Air worked fine, went into a restaurant, came out about an hour later, air doesnt work. Checked freon level and replaced the pressure sensor that sits on the receiver/dryer. Compressor still isnt coming on. Any suggestions of stuff to check? Can the clutch just go out like that? It wasnt making any noises, was ice cold.

i dont have an owners manual or haynes, so Im not sure which one it is. I would assume its a 20 amp, and ive checked all them....does any1 know which fuse is the ac clutch?? thx

i found a diagram online og a 94 gt, it was a 30 amp fuse. It was fine. Any other suggestions? Thx again!

Is the compressor kicking on at all?

no. I turn it to max or norm, all the way cold, and the compressor never turns on. Just blows hot air. I can turn the clutch by hand with a little effort.

If your low or out of refridgerant then the compressor clutch will not engage. How did you go about checking the level or refridgerant in the system?

I didnt have a gauge, so I bought a can and I hooked it up to a hose and plugged it into the low side. Turned air on max, never took any of it.

Thats not the proper way to charge or check the system. Itf its empty, you need to charge with the first two cans upside down, and the third one, rightside up. Is 95 R12 or was it 134A by then.

My '94 is R134A, so his should be too. Esp. if he bought a can....

Anyway, if the system is empty it needs more than a charge. You may have a leak somewhere. Best to have a vacuum pump draw done, and make sure there are no leaks, then refill the system properly.

its 134. Ive filled my thunderbird this way when it had a leak and it worked fine. Im not saying its the right way, just that it worked before. So do I have to go and pay some1 $50 or so just to tell me if its leaking or do I have any more options? It does have a sticker on it where dye was added in 2003. Will a normal black light pick the die up, if any is still in the system that is.

I guess i need to go and buy a gauge to see if it even has a charge?? I know wal mart has one for about 10-15 bucks, i'll use it again in future im sure, so not a waste.

Thx for all of ya'lls patience. I bought a gauge. It showed 70 lbs, which was just in the red zone on the gauge, which meant warning, lol. Can I purge the excess or is that a bad idea? Do ac systems sometimes have pressure build up, or what? thx!!!!!

Seems like its overcharged. You can purge it out, 134 is supposed to be Ozone friendly, but the proper way is to have it evac'ed.

what would have caused it to become overcharged? Or does it just occasionally happen? It had stopped working before I tried to add some.
