so i was getting onto the freeway a couple days ago, and as i was getting near the on-ramp i notice my clutch pedal is very easy to push, which is a stark change compared to the leg press i normally have to perform, but im just like "thats odd, but ok". then as i upshift to 4th while getting on the freeway, i hear a loud POP and the clutch pedal moves off to the side! i try to shift and nothing, wont go into gear; the clutch does not engage enough. so im coasting down the freeway, and as i approach 10mph im able to get it into 4th, and i lug it up and off the freeway. i pull over, call AAA, blah blah...
shop tells me that the pedal bracket broke (no duh!) and that the parts wont be in till at least tuesday. also, the head mechanic said he had only seen something like this one or two times in the 30 years hes worked on cars, and those 2 were different cars. their computer doesnt have a labor time for this job, so they give me a quote of 3.5 hours, which puts the total to 450 dollars! they finished by saying that possibly a spring came out of the clutch disk and is floating around in the tranny, causing extra stress and not engaging all the way. however i never had a problem with it not engaging, other than the fact that my clutch cable is stretched out and loose. they gave me the old "we wont know for sure unless we take it apart, and thats a hefty repair" im like O RLY? i guess my question is has anyone had this happen and is it an easy repair? and why does my honda have a distinct citrus flavor? cliff notes: -clutch predal broke -possible spring floating in tranny -fresh lemon scent?

I broke a clutch pedel once, took about 30 minutes to fix it, but it wasnt on a honda. Shouldnt take three hours though.
Unlikely. Because you have a limon air freshener haning from the mirror.

fix the clutch pedal yourself, i acutally have a full pedal assembly laying aroud if you need.
i wouldnt worry about the clutch engagement spring, unless you heard your tranny making a noise like its got a dollars worth of change in its pocket. fix the pedal first, then look into anything else. that shop is robbing you for 3.5 hours to do a pedal. and they will rob you even more if you let them pull your trans.

i'd do it myself but i have absolutely no time, i work full time, taking 18 units in college, and my free time goes to my fiero, putting the new engine in. plus they said that if it takes less than 3.5 hours they will charge me only for what it took, ive worked with these guys before they seem to be on the level, although their timetables werent exactly accurate; last time my truck wasnt done until almost a week after they had told me it would be done, but the work was good so meh. thanks for the input guys, and lets keep it coming

This happened to my friends ford truck a couple years back. I think it took them like an hour to fix if even that. The hardest part was the spring.

yea I would def. fix the pedal, but you mentioned your times was taken up by your other ride. I think the shop was B'sing on the tranny spring rolling in the tranny, if that had happened you wouldnt be able to shift. It sounds like your pedal of your clutch wasnt adjusted right or was loose causing it to snapp out of place.
I suggest you take it to a friend or buddy who knows Honda's, Buy beer and joke bout it.....lol The best part of your story was: "O RLY?" LMFAO.... |

kk got my car back today took him a little over 4 hours to replace the clutch pedal bracket assembly, apparently had to take off the steering column and crap. cost me about $500! oh well the clutch is much easier to depress and it feels much more responsive, definitely nothing in there keeping it from engaging, i will take a picture or two of the old bracket to show u what went wrong haha

have any of you ever took off their pedal assembly before ? i have, its not as easy just reaching under there and taking off the bolts
