Aftermarket Stereo Removal?
My uncle recently sold me his old 1992 Civic DX, I've tried to get the stereo out to replace it with something a bit better, but it doesn't seem to want to come out.
Its an Audiovox if that helps. Any ideas? |

Re: Aftermarket Stereo Removal?
You have to bend the braket flaps forward so you can slide it out. If its a newer deck, then there should be some tabs that you have to push to relese it from its housing...

Re: Aftermarket Stereo Removal?
the aftermarket radio is held in a sleeve that holds it in place. there r two locking tabs (one on each side) that snap into the sides of the radio to keep it from slidding out. u gotta press them away from the radio unit in order to pull it out. the easies way is w/ the keys designed just fro that. if u get a new headunit, they will come w/ it. then u can either put the new radio in using the existing sleeve, or pull up the tabs holding the sleeve in and install the new sleeve. also the radio may be held in by a single bolt in the back, kind of as an anti-theft step. it could be bolted to a bracket or a metal strap. but either way u should be able to get to it from behind w/ a little funky bending of u'r body. prolly layin on u'r back.most of the time people don't bother takin that extra step. good luck
