good point...i never think of the obvious things, i decided to go the way of a custom exhaust, i see alot of people used dynomax mufflers in theirs...is there any specific one that sounds better on our cars?

Re: custom exhaust

dynomax's website has sounds of their mufflers, the stainless steel ultra flow is a little more sporty sounding, where as the ultra flow welded is a little deeper... I think some guy on 3si sells custom exhausts... he's the maker of the N/A modding bible I think... oh yea and btw dynomax's are really freaking loud so you might want to leave your intake resonator on (just in case you were thinkin' about removing it).... that is, unless you like that loud ass sound...

ok thanks, i already replaced my intake with a polsihed pipe off of ebay...looks mostly...so your saying with what i have now...3sx downpipe and race pipe that a custom made catback with a dynomax will be rediculous...what if i get a high flow cat insted of the race pipe?

Re: custom exhaust

You could do what i did, instead of doing a catback have a true dual system custom made, there is a video on here somewhere that shows what my setup looks like, it performs and sounds better than a cat-back would.

Re: custom exhaust

3KSL95... a/b how much hp do u got?... and I've heard that the underdrive pulleys are pretty dangerous, especially for 3s's... I've got a/b the same mods... except the flywheel... I was just wondering how much all of that added to your car..

Re: custom exhaust

from what I've heard, converting your car to a true dual exhaust isn't worth the HP rating in the end, b/c the extra weight you gain will balance it out... but I mean that's only what I've heard...

And Beef, lol yea if you've got a DP and a race pipe with no cat you're gonna' be really loud... you could get a high flow cat if you want (I know a place that sells em' for like 80 bucks) but I mean it would still be loud... just stick with the setup you got, and if it's too loud you can put on some stuff like silencing tips (IDK if those work or not) and put your intake resonator back on... it's all up to you though man...

Re: custom exhaust

i prefer the deep sound myself. custom exhaust from the catback is a cheap gain. in my city the guy customized my exhaust(y piped) for about $120. later i found there are cheaper.
my mufflers are from spw, they sound really deep and powerfull....oh wait........my car is powerfull lol

Re: custom exhaust

^lol, yea man custom exhaust is a good way to go if it's done right... but yea dynomax muffler's will probly sound nice with your setup man... the best mufflers (in sound and duration and look IMO) are borlas, but they're really freakin expensive...

if and when you get your setup done man, I'd be really interested in hearing it if you could somehow find a way to record, and upload a sound file of your exhaust setup I'd be really interested in hearing it.

Re: custom exhaust

I was in your place last year Beef... it ain't easy... but once you graduate... if you work full-time for awhile... things will come... I've just been setback by so many things going wrong... and this morning my car started making a funny whooshing sound (while I was sitting still)...

I do plan on recording my exhaust sound... I may change the setup, and if I do, I will definitely record it before changing anything... and after as well

Re: custom exhaust

Mike, im not sure how much hp i gained from my mods because ive never had a chance to dyno my car, but the gains were very very noticeable especially in throttle response and acceleration. As for the underdrive pulleys they're not to bad, the 3sx pulley is a great mod it only weighs 1.6 pounds as opposed to the 7 pound stock one and its roughly the same size so its not dangerous really. All told i would say my mods give me about 230 - 245 at the crank, but thats just a guess.

Re: custom exhaust

thanks, I was really wanting to make sure it was worth the money before I kept adding on these little things here and there... to my knowledge, since the pulleys are on the bottom end of the engine... wouldn't the underdrive pulleys (made for DOHC) work on SOHC, sry this is a little off-topic... but it's got me wondering..
