ruined another paint job...uuugh

I just read the how-to on painting model car bodies...but I still have some questions...Im using Krylons paint for plastic...Is that a good paint?...should I change to somethin else...Also, the rubbing compound...Should you use it after you've applied your final coat of paint and it has dried?...Im using something called 3M Finesse It Finishing Material...is that the same as the rubbing compound or should I use something else...Sorry for all the questions...Thanks for any help...Matt

Re: ruined another paint job...uuugh

ok... i recommend using a Duplicolor primer with a Duplicolor paint. NOT the enamel stuff, the real automotive paint. you can find it at PepBoys, Autozone, places like that. or you can try Plastikote, i like them both quite a bit(haven't tried Tamiya, though). those are common paints that are easy to find. people have said a lot of good things about Tamiya spray paints, but automotive paints are usually more cost effective and do a pretty good job. people usually have varying opinions about Krylon, i think. as for the 3M stuff, i'm not sure.

I have used Krylon paints a number of times with varying degrees of success. I have found they do react to other paints including primers and they can be a little 'heavy'. Their best use is on smooth bare plastic as long as you stick with basic colours ie black, red etc

your best bet is to use proper car paint with the respective primer and clear.
