Actually, the 1st gens have bigger head poirting and and somewhat of a stronger bottom end. HP is rated at 195hp. Don't let that fool you though, its capable of withstanding 600hp with stock inernals. It also comes with the trusty 14B turbo. Head flows alot morte air. Some of the motors also have different cam angle sensors. The throtle body is bigger along with the intake manifold.

2g's have almost the exact settings, only differences are the turbo (T25 a.k.a T2small) and head work is a little more constictive. Also it has the 7 bolt motor which has the nasty reputation to suffer from crankwalk. Odds of happening to you are slim to none. But it may still happen....there alot more, but I'll let you do your homework...Have fun

BTW, the bottom end of a 2g can withstand 400-500 hp stock as well. 4G63's are the bomb!!!!!!

Alrighty, here goes. This is my first post here, but I hope I can help answer questions through my experience.

First Gens:
Better- Head, turbo (14b), Throttle body (60mm), Rods, Short Block (6 bolt), Intercooler core is bigger, intake manifold, compressor bypass valve, and the later 1st gens had the 4 bolt rear end.

Second Gens:
Better- Pistons, Throttle Body Elbow, Mass Airflow Sensor, Exhaust Manifold, larger intercooler endtanks, O2 Housing

I think I got most of it, and I will edit it as I think of more.

1st gen has the stronger bottom end larger head and better 14b turbo.
2nd gen switched to a smaller garrett turbo that gives a smaller psi rating

The 2nd Gens making more horsepower is simply the compression, which was 7.8:1 in the first gen and 8.5:1 in the second gen.

And this thread is almost 4 years old... Do NOT bring back dead threads unless you are the original poster to the thread.
