'96 Check Engine Light on

Hi all,

First let me say this car has 142,000 miles and has been good to me for the most part. It rained really badly here in NY over the last two days. So i figured it was due to the rain. But I drove 70 miles today and put some gas in and no change.

Initially, the check engine light was blinking for about 10-20 seconds the first time I started the car after she was sitting for two days...but now remains steady.

Also, i just realized it has been awhile (say 25-30,000 miles) since the air filter's been changed.

Any ideas on this? I recently did have a pipe replace from the exhaust manifold to the Cat. Converter.

Thanks in advance

Paul

Easy way to save money and not guess here is have it scanned and post back the codes.

Thanks Max!

The light actually went off so I am thinking it was all about the rain again.

I don't mean to jack this thread but the check engine light comes on in my sunfire almost every time I fill the tank with premium. Has anyone had this happen to them?

The idiots at the dealer won't give me the code. They just keep telling me that the light is going off because the 2.2 was made to run on Regular, so if you fill it with higher than 87 the light will go off. I'm convinced they know even less than i do but won't give me the number.

Your check enging light will not come on because you use a high grade fuel. I ran 93 for a while because... well, i'm not sure why. Never had any intermittent codes or strange effects from it. I went back to 87 though and still got no change.
