muffler exhaust ques
ok i have a 1995 3kgt auto...and was wondering how do i make my car sound like those rice civics...i kno this is kinda s2pid...but i want 2 get that rice sound out of my ride...what do i have 2 change hey im cheap i dont want 2 buy a new exhaust system...my car is stock...sorry im a newb...ive been seeing muffler tips on ebay that sell for $10-$22...i was thinking of gettin 2 big fart cans...is that the way 2 make your car sound rice...but when i looked at my car earlier the stock form is 4 mufflers...and am wondering how easy is it 2 change it...and put it back when smog check comes...does changing mufflers affect smog or what...

why not get an exhaust from a civic and swap it in?

you're just beggin for flamin with a question like that. You see, we're the people who laughed at F&F 1 when the supra shifted a 6th time in the quarter mile drag. just punch a couple holes in your cat-conv and you will get the sound... a kid did it at my old HS with his eclipse and it was just as loud and sounded almost identical to some kid with a fully modded civic. |

yes this is s2pid. Do your car a favor and sell it or crash it now.
But if you're really deadset on this, here is your answer: You don't have 4 mufflers, you have 4 exhaust tips, any 2 fart cans will work, just get an exhaust shop to make you a catback and attach it to 2 fartcans. Go with 2.5", 2.75", or 3" depending on how loud and how much low-end torque you want to sacrifice in order to have your car sound like crap. It will pass smog checks unless you fool with or remove your cat.

anyway Jimmy, the question is kinda dumb and really very funny to anyone here who knows how an exhaust works. I didnt want to flame you cause I wassnt sure about your age and all, we are all entittled to be beginers I suppose so I'll answer formally instead. just like Igovert mentioned, your car has two mufflers, not 4 and its got 4 tips. (two tips on each muffler) also you dont have to buy two exhaust systems, your car uses only one exhaust system so whoever told you that is just trying to steel your money. I guess what you mean by getting it to sound like a "ricey civic" you mean you want that deep throughty sound or VROOOOOOOMMMMMMM! right? well what makes that sound is called a "ressonator" its a cylindrical mesh thats causes air to vibrate as it passes through, the air becomes turbulant and starts to generate the sound you hear as it exits the tailpipe. the tips you see on e-bay are no good if they are just "tips". a tip it just a crome finished or polished metal you put on the end of the tailpipe to make it look nice, you know, so your not staring at a black plain piece of steel. some tips do have ressonators but not very powerfull ones. the "fart cans" you speak of are actually called "mufflers". a stock muffler is a canister with walls and guides inside that deccelerates exhaust gas as it travels though. this decceleration causes the air to actually quiet down there by muffleling the sound. a performance exhaust is the opposite I guess, it has a straight pass-through so air does not decceletate, it also has a ressonator to make that VROOOOMMMM sound you like. contrary to what you think people dont add performace mufflers to get a "ricey sound". no no, they add them cause it actually is a performance gain. it allows air to travel faster out of the engine. sure the gain is minimal but still a gain. popping a hole in a stock muffler is stupid cause you have no performance gain. what you have to do is buy two mufflers with ressonators in them and have them installed. its not gonna be cheap though. I hate to be the one to tell you Jimmy but you bought a 3000GT man! its not a crappy grocery getter, its a bondefied sports car. Mods are gonna be expensive. and try not to be too cheap with it, you do need to use high octain and that oil from the gas station wont cut it, you need good stuff for that puppy. I'm sorry about my first post man. I too thought it was odd that Brian shifted the supra into 6th gear. I guess I didnt give you enough credit. but whats odd is if you knew about the gearing and stuff how come you dont know the difference between a downpipe and a turbo-back? stay safe man. let us know how it turns out. wow man I really can't believe that anyone was actually capable of doing somthing to their car like that... tell ya waht I'll go buy a civic and rice it out, than we can trade cars...you could start by removing your intake resonator and replacing it with a piece of piping... that'll give you a bit of sound, but nothing big... I suggest that you get yourself a nice 2.5" custom exhaust (they aren't that expensive), a downpipe, and a high flow cat converter... it won't be a cheap fix, but it'll make the car sound wonderfull... get dynomax mufflers if your low on funds, but if you want the best IMO get Borlas... later man
