ABS / Brake Light Activation

I own a 2001 GMC Yukon XL and until now have been happy with it. I am experiencing ABS / Brake light activation intermittently. If I turn the ignition off and turn it on again, the lights will disappear. Sometimes, the light(s) will not come on in days. Sometimes they will come on five days in row. I would appreciate some insight on this problem. Thank You!

Checked t\your fluid levels? Changed brakes recently? Is the ABS unit humming constantly?

The brake reservoir is full. The abs motor comes on for a few seconds at start up and then stops. I replaced the brakes (front & rear) approximately six months ago. I also removed the front wheels and cleaned the speed sensors. I did not check the resistance of the sensors. Would the sensors cause both the ABS and brake light to come on concurrently??

Usually its only worn out brake. I am probably out of my league if I add anymore than I have because I have not had this happen. Anyone else?

When the EBCM detects a fault,it will illuminate the Amber ABS light and the Red brake warning lamp.
WSS could cause the light to come on..best thing to do is get the codes read.

Re: ABS / Brake Light Activation

I am having the same "issues" with my wife's 01 yukon and the dealer says the codes indicate that I need a $1800 ABS module. Is this what you did to fix the problem???

Before letting them replace it, try cleaning the ground. GM has had a lot of problems with that ground connection. There is nothing wrong with most of the modules that get replaced.

The ground should be on the frame rail just beneath the driver's side door.

This was exactly the problem I had. Both ABS and brake light would come on sometimes but not when raining. Problem got worse and worse.

Removed the ground. Cleaned off the ton of rustproofing and road crap with steel wool and simply green. ABS is working great so far.

The ground is actually on a extention of the frame rail that attaches to the body with the rubber boots. You won't have any problem finding it. Thanks very much for the post saved me at the very least 800 dollars.
