Question just bought questionable 2001 alero

I just bought a 2001 alero, and the very first day that I had it strange things started happening. The driver's side window occasionally won't work, the turn signals occasionally won't work, and the c.d. player only occasionally takes the c.d. Does anyone have any explanations?

The problems don't seem related.

On the driver's side power window problem, it could just be a bad switch or drive motor.

On turn signals, the turn signal switch assembly could just have flaky contacts. Is it a flashing problem or are the left or right just not turning on?

The CD player insertion problem is common on a lot of Aleros.

Aleros were/are under recall for the "hazard warning relay switch" that switch controls the blinkers. Give your VIN to a dealer to see if it falls under the recall. Mine didn't, so I did it myself. It's a easy fix. Part is appx. 25$

The left and right signals both occasionally just won't come on at all. Also, sometimes when they do come on, they'll just stop. Will appreciate any advice. thx

When they work do they flash properly? Sounds like either bad contacts in the turn signal assembly or the 12v from the ignition switch. Possibly the flasher.

Another suggestion is check both front and rear turn signal lamps. Make sure they are the correct ones numerically and seated properly.

I will reply to two of the problems;

Turn signals are a defect in the four way flasher switch, I had the same problems with my sons 2000 as stated b/4 by another member this may be on recall from GM check with your dealer. If you are like me of course my month of car was not covered under the recall, the new switch is less than $30.00 and most anyone can install(simple).

Second, the window I have not totally figured this one out yet but I have found if I take the door panel off and take the window motor out there is stress or binding on the window gears, if I reinstall it works fine for about a week. I have tried to adjust the track but no luck.

For the radio my sons is possesed, it turns on and off every 15 min. or so I put a new controll switch on but this did not help. I just recomend a new radio.

Besides these few inconvienent problems this as been a good car.

Re: just bought questionable 2001 alero

The power window motor and regulator are common problems on Aleros. But I'd checkout or troubleshoot the switch first because it's cheaper than and easier to replace than a motor/regulator assembly. Just my 2 cents.

You can get the radios on ebaymotors.com for around $200.00 for the ones with a CD player.
