hose from valve cover to air cleaner.
the hose from the valve cover running to the air cleaner is just sucking oil cause the air cleaner...i don't mean a lil bit here and there i mean alot. Does anyone kno y it ould be doin this or anyway i could fix it. with gas prices the way they are i don't wanna be running with an extremly dirty air cleaner all the time.

Re: hose from valve cover to air cleaner.
There could be a couple of causes for the oil getting pushed out of the top of the valve cover.
1. The small vacuum line that goes from your valve cover to the manifold is plugged. 2. You have blow-by (usually caused by worn cylinder walls on high mileage engines. When the piston explodes the explosion is pushing past the piston rings creating a positive pressure in the engine block, pushing oil out of everywhere it can.) In my case I have blow-by so what I did, until I rebuild my engine, is run the hose from my valve cover into a clean collection canister (that breaths to atmosphere) in my engine bay. A when it gets full I pure it back into the engine and start again. It is just a temp fix, but it will keep your air breather and system clean. PS. Because the canister is breathing to atmosphere you may have the odd oil smell, but you should no longer have a mess. Hope it helps. |

Re: hose from valve cover to air cleaner.
What year and milage on this. I had the same problem on my 89 cherokee , a lot of people told me the rings were shot. If you read this thread, you shouldn't have any problem.
