Crower Cams

Hey fellas, I've been lookin at a new cam for my civic and have no clue in hell what im lookin for. I dont know what kind of lift i want, then on top of it all there are a crapload of numbers for ADVERTISED DURATION, DURATION, and GROSS LIFT, and frankly i have no idea what all that is. I have a 2002 ex as most know, could you tell me a good cam to purchase, I want it to be better than stock. I have heard rumor you can get aprox. 20 ponies off of these things, is this true?

Thanks guys. Please point me in the right direction.

no one makes an approved cam for your car/motor yet.

as fro a regrind, just tell them what you expect from it, and they'll do their best.

I have the same question, but I have a 98 EX... What do you know about ZEX, or Gude, or any of the others that make cams for my engine? I don't want a regrind, I want a new cam. What are my options and whats the best one?

for cams, duration is the term for how long that you have your intake and exhaust valves are open, the longer they open the more air/fuel can enter the engine, and the more it escapes, too much duration and the car will idle rough.

lift is the amount the valves will open into the combustion chamber, again the further they open the more can enter or exit, too much and the valves will hit into the pistons, unless you have special pistons that can allow for more clearence, you will end up bending your valves, and possible damaging the rest of your valvetrain.

dont go outrageous with these numbers or your car will run like shit, get numbers that are only a little bit higher than your stock ratings. If you ever heard a NASCAR car idling you will know what it sounds like with cams that are a lot higher then a stock cam, they run like shit at low rpms, but when you open it up, they run great, not recommended for a street engine, just something mild will do fine.
