95 MX-3 Engine Swap (Ford Probe)
Okay, I'm looking at a car that is for sale. It's a 1995 MX-3 GS 6CYL. The guy says that the valve seals are gone in the motor that's in it, but he will include a second engine from 97 Ford Probe GT (2.5L). He says that the engine will go in as a clean swap.
Is this true? Will I have any complications if I try to do this? Do you recomend I work on getting the valve seals fixed, or attempt the swap? Thanks in advance. |

Re: 95 MX-3 Engine Swap (Ford Probe)
as far as i know the engine/transmission are the same for the ford and the mazda (ford owns mazda) so yea, i think it would work. but if you dont have the knowledge/experience of engine swaps it'd be worth having someone else do it, but work out the cost for the car an the work if you cant do it yourself.

Re: 95 MX-3 Engine Swap (Ford Probe)
do it yourself, just read up the http://www.mx-3.com forums and you'll find boat loads of info.
If you can change oil and name the major components of an engine, then you'll have no difficulty doing this swap. I've done the swap twice myself and honestly had never change oil myself before I started. lol Easy stuff

Thread is two years old almost... It's the internal coil circuit inside the distributor. When it heats up it ends up causing a short. Simple fix is the HEI conversion and external coil. http://www.clubprotege.com/wil/howto/hei/index.htm - better than a new or used distributor.
