dodge neon airbags and rear end damage

My husband was rear ended friday while driving our 2002 neon, by a dodge avenger, both cars were going about 40-45 mph, should the air bags of either car deployed. the avenger went up under our car, from the back glass down to the rear doors is crinkled, the spare tire well is buckled up and there is now about a three inch gap between the cover that covers it and the trunk floor, the muffler is broken, some kind of fluid is leaking (noticed when it was loaded and unloaded off tow truck) and the back window shelf now has a "step up" all the way across. the front end of the avenger substained heavy damage. the avenger lifted our neon off the ground and it dropped back down. any ideas of air bag deployment stats? thanks.
