Stalling 95 Jimmy
I just purchased a 95 Jimmy SLS 4door 4WD with 174,000 miles. It runs well for the most part, but once it gets under 1/2 tank of gas, it stalls occasionally under braking or turning. I had the EGR code, and replaced it. Now I have a 441 code "Purge flow fault". I replaced the gas cap, cleaned what I could of the intake without removing it and added gas treatment and fuel injection cleaner.
The guy I bought it from said he put a new fuel pump in it, but it occasionally stalled when under 1/4 of a tank, even before replacing the pump. I was thinking there may be a crack in the line between the pick-up and fuel pump. Any ideas would be appreciated. One other question, any idea how much an ABS control unit goes for? Thanks |

You have what's known as 1/4 tank syndrome... Common in older trucks... Your pickup inside the tank is going bad so what happens is that when the gas sloshes around it just can't grab any and starts to lose flow...I and others have had the same thing...Only real way to fix it is to replace the pickup which is part of the sending unit...(you have to buy the sending unit)

Re: Stalling 95 Jimmy
Thanks for the info! I found a certified mechanic who will drop the tank and fix it for $50. I was going to try and fix it myself, but for $50 he can have the job, plus he has a fully equipped garage to use, as he is a county mechanic who services the Sheriffs cruisers.
I will post Thursday after I get the Jimmy back, as to how the repair went. |
