transmission no go
I have a 91 Escort and the other day transmission just stopped working, no movement in any gear. pulled tranny and everything looks good, fluid good, no metal or other foreign matter in pan, took down valve body and everything moves ok and pins were aligned. still nothing, shaft seems to be turning pump ok. Any Ideas what could be wrong?

Automatic or manual? Only thing I can think of is a shot clutch not grabbing, therefore sending no power into the tranny and to the wheels.

The above info would lead me to believe that it is an automatic. I find early 90's Escorts with automatics for sale all the time... dirt cheap because the transmission is shot. I have never investigated why, or what breaks, but it seems to be a pretty common problem.
