Re: Get a real beetle

I just finished the front end. Adjustable 2" Narrowed beam, 2 1/2" drop spindles, 1641cc dual port with dual 40 IDF webers. I would say around 80-100hp. Its not about speed, cause new beetles dont have it anyways, its about style.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking your ride, but **from your picture**, it looks as though your car has a very good restoration. Now I agree that old Beetles are pretty sharp looking, but tell me in your opinion what makes your car have more style than new Beetles?

Re: Get a real beetle

First of all, new beetle are front wheel drive, front engine, and super heavy. It just doesnt have the same lines and the old ones. The old ones are sexy, the new ones are ugly.

I have to say, the front wheel drive argument is a good one, I would much rather and do have a rwd car (93 Camaro). I also agree with the better lines argument, which goes for a lot of cars that were made during those days, like my Camaro as well. Although there have been many technological advances with the new Beetles/Camaros/all newer cars, there's just something about the old ones that screams "kick ass". Good arguments, man, I agree with you completely now.

I am going to have to disagree. I have owned both styles and the new beetle has so much more class.. And as far as horsepower if you have done all that work and only have maybe 100 HP. I have a CBR900RR that I have been working on for awhle that has 176RWHP and It is just a bike.
But Your bug does look good!!!!!!

Re: Get a real beetle

Well sure, but with technology come more complicated problems, requiring experienced trained people to fix them. And Im all about reliability, but if something goes wrong you cant do anything about it and its going to be costly to fix. These old beetles are so cheap and so simple to fix. And about the bike, Its probably 40years newer than my car, bikes make all their power from 8-13k rpm which requires alot of fuel and air=hp

I've owned a number of air cooled bugs and busses and I gotta say - the New Beetle is a dream to drive by comparison to any of the A.C.'s.
However, I do have to agree with you about the styling. To me it's got too much of a cutesy stuffed animal appearance.
That's why I grafted a TT nose and Tail onto it!
Not to try and make an Audi out of it but just to give it a little style...

Re: Get a real beetle

Yea I saw one of those the other day pulling into a gas station in AZ. I think that makes them look even more rediculous but everyone has their own taste, opinion and style they are after so Im not narking you.

Wink ummm not really

I have to say that and old beetle is the daddy of the new beetle but there is nothing like being a long side a an old school beetle on a red light, and hitting the gas let me just say the 140mph on the dash is NOT for looks. Its not about lines and cuteness its about POWER a new beetle stock four puts out 115 hp and mine stock comes with 175 not adding the new cam and the new cam gears as well as the 100 shot nos system and ram air system, which brings my little ugly beetle to about 300 hp and no matter what anybody says i love pulling ahead on a z28 camaro and seeing their face, asking them selfs did a beetle just kick my butt????? and my friend that is a face you will never see driving a car that has peaked at a 110 hp. And just so you know theres a beetle out there that is pushing 525 hp on twin turbos so watch out, one day you could be tempted to drive the child instead of the daddy.

Re: Get a real beetle
