Dream Theater is by no means nu-metal. Their first album came out in 1989. Anyone who is familiar with Dream Theater knows they are a progressive metal band. I'm not kidding.
Nu-metal is like Mudvayne or Mushroomhead.

I have read articles describing Dream theater's music as "Art Rock" That label has also been used in the past to describe such bands as Yes, Rush, and Emerson Lake and Palmer.
