Sorry, I don't buy it that it looks like that at all. I say it will look more like the Concept photos from a while back.

Anyway, I'll be there in Tokyo with the digital camera, snappin' some pics!

its actualy supposed to be a whole new design. im sure it will look closer to these chops than anything else that was released in the plan.

personally, i kinda like it. it flows alittle bit better than the old concept, and look more appealing, to me at least.

The problem I see is it looks too artsy and not production minded. Production dictates a lot of realities. The headlights and a few other aspects just don't look mainstream enough.

If Nissan is going to release a GTR in todays world market it will still need to pay at least a little homage to the original yet be livable as a daily driver.

Just my opinion, but we will see in a few days.

Re: GTR Proto

im sure it will be much more of a luxury sports car than a performance machine. i mean...it will be released under infiniti, so im sure theyre leaning more towards the upscale of things.

The GT-R Proto is a prototype of the next GT-R. The 'new Skyline' has been out since 2002. The Infiniti G35 is the US version.

Trying to learn about cars? Here's a short lesson. The 'Skyline' you're probably talking about is only the top level model, the GT-R. There are many other models that are not as performance oriented.

Familiar with the BMW 3-series? Well, you have many different kinds of them, ranging from 320s to 325s and 330s in sedan, coupe and wagon form. However, the top model is the M3. So the M3 and GT-R are similar, in that that are the high-performance model of their line.

The new proto looks ok...not bad. Let's just hope if comes to the States in doesn't give a bad name for the Skyline-to those who don't know what a Skyline is.

Don't worry about that, it will not be called a Skyline in the USA. It will be an Infinit GT-R in the states, and possibly worldwide.

As for not being an embarassment.... hmmm.... tough to say.

Even if it is a technological tour-de-force, it will be swimming with some pretty big fish. The new $67,000, 500 hp, 3120 lb, Corvette ZO6 is eating a lot of people's lunches. It'll be hard to beat an aluminum framed, carbon fiber panneled, magnesium suspensioned, $67,000 supercar. Especially now that the C6 ZO6 has one of the fastest records on the Nurburg Ring (7min 42 sec if I am not mistaken). I believe only the Porsche Carrera GT beats it.

Will the new GT-R be under $67,000? Can it beat a 7:42 lap of the Nurburg Ring? Will it wieigh less than 3200 lbs? Hmmm... can anyone say diminishing returns.

Re: GTR Proto

Even if the GT-R can't beat the Z06, there are plenty of other cars it can tangle with. I imagine it should take out the V8 E90 M3.

Depends on the price...

The 350Z hit a good market segment at $30K. The only real competition is the Mustang Cobra (kinda sorta) and the WRX / EVO twins. Although these cars are not 2 seaters.

The new Infiniti GTR will most likely be a coupe. I haven't heard how many seats though. Maybe a 2+2 since it is built on the FM platform like the G35.

Anyway, if it retails for more than $67,000 it will have a difficult time making the Porsche argument that it is quality not speed. With the law of diminishing returns, it is hard to imagine it being faster than the C6 ZO6. So that kind of only leaves price.

Seeing the GTR is an import and an Infiniti, it will be hard to keep the price under $70,000, especially if the car is a technological marvel as some theorize. Nissan may not be able to find the right longterm niche in the USA. The GTR may go the way of the Supra, RX-7, and 3000GT VR4.

I hope they get it right, or at least make it affordable!

Re: GTR Proto

with the mark of the new GT-R, it will also mark infini's launch into the worldwide market. even in japan.

as per prices....most rumors seem to indicate that estimates will be in the 60k price range. which will be far out of reach for johnny tuner.
