Trunk Leaking

Hello, i own an '89 lesabre limited 4 door and recently noticed my trunk is getting soaked when it rains. soaked as to the extent that the spare tire well has 3 inches of water in it. so i immediatly took out all rugs etc and put a garden hose on it and the trunk leakes on both sides where the trunk springs are that hold the trunk up. it looks like the points are spot welded together from the factory. i did take a look at the rubber seal on both sides and it appears in excellent condition. i am wondering since this area is so tight to look at, where else could it leak from. the water is dripping down from the top of the car so its not from my shocks or fenders. any input would b great.

re: spare tire well, drill a hole or two for drainage. Be sure to check what's underneath so you don't hit the gas tank or any other important items.

re: where's the leak, you'll have to tell us as we can't get our hands on your car. Have a buddy with a flashlight get in the trunk, close it and take the garden hose to it while your buddy spots the leak.

I had trouble with my 1990 LeSabre Limited Coupe leaking into the trunk and back seat. It was dripping right onto the center of my back seat when it rained and the trunk was getting soaked. I took it to a glass shop and they said that the back window needed to be reset and resealed but if they broke the window then i would have to pay for it. So i went to Autozone and bought a tube of Clear RV sealer and put a bead of it around the back window all the way around and smoothed it over with my finger. You don't even notice it unless your looking for it and it doesnt leak. The sealer was only about 13 bucks.

well, its not leaking into the back seats, i have sealed it with some window/door caulk thats clear. i looked in the trunk and its leaking right at the trunk curve to the rear by the window on "both" sides. i dont know where exactly the water is coming in, but i am starting to worry that my car will rot out in the rear. i have some rust around the fender wells and have a good feeling that its because of the moisture. my carpet is already soaked and i had to drill holes into my spare tire well to lose the water that has been accumulating.

Re: Trunk Leaking

My '93 also leaks but I haven't gone so far as to actually find out why. It started just after I backed into my father's pickup truck and crunched the passenger rear light. After replacing it, my trunk starts getting wet in the rain. I though maybe the water was getting in around the bolt holes, so I siliconed them to no avail. It doesn't seem to leak when I run a garden hose on it, though.

the entire window is sealed correctly. i have sealed with caulk on the outside window lip, and where you lift up the trunk i sealed the inside of that area, especially where the gasket is. i am not sure as to where else the water could come in. the really only happens when it sits in downpouring rain and it also happens if i drive, so i know that my shocks are sealed up. but the water drips down onto the trunk springs and the rear shocks from the top of the car so its got to be somewhere. anymore ideas.
