93 lumina motor swap

My mom has a 93 lumina 3.1 with 208 grand on it.
A crank bearing went out causing lots of damage.

I got a 93 engine at an auction for 300$ It has 83000 miles written on the intake.
Well basicily after lots of pain and suffering swaping engines And getting all connectors pluged in.
I still have two plugs with no place to go. It is the same wire but one plug is in the front around the area of the coil pack. And the other side is in the rear around the Crank sensor. But its about two feet longer.

The wire is Yellow and Purple. I'm pretty sure that is something important as the car will crank but not start.
Its getting proper fuel pressure, but no spark, I tested it by holding a spark plug near the block and cranking it.
I'm way over my head on this. I know basic mechanics and electronics, but that car is crazy!

Re: 93 lumina motor swap

did one engine have the wide flat upper plenum with "3.1 Liter" on it and the other the narrow upper plenum with "3100SFI" on it? If so, they are not compatible engines, as the "3100SFI" has two crank sensors and the "3.1 Liter" has only one crank sensor.

It was the 3.1L the motors are identical.

Re: 93 lumina motor swap

there are 3 harnesses to the module under the coil pack, a 3 wire and a 6 wire on the passenger's side, and a two wire on the drivers side. Did you get all three hooked up? What type of plug does the harness on the back have on it and what color are those wires? I should be able to help you out

Re: 93 lumina motor swap

Here are some pics. The first one is where I pulled the wire up from near the firewall.
And the second one is of the front wire.

Re: 93 lumina motor swap

The vehicle speed sensor on the transmission uses a purple and yellow 2-wire connector
that would go across the back. the one on the front should go to the Ignition module.

Another thing, on your year, both the VIN-W (1 crank sensor) and VIN-T (2 crank sensors) look identical. It wasn't until 94 that they went to the Vin-T and Vin-M that had the different shaped upper plenums.

The VCC, I didn't think of that. But the Ignition module already has a connector attatched to it. ITs two wire but its Pink/Green white stripe.
I looked at another lumina and saw that on the other car.

Re: 93 lumina motor swap

Is it possible that the other plug is for an engine cooling fan, it looks similar and has the heavy guage wire.

I'm sure that isn't the case. I am using the original wiring harness for the car. And the old engine only has one crank sensor.
And if the new engine has two, I would be one connector short instead on one too many.
I just checked

Wow the way you know Luminas is like the way I know S10's LOL

Re: 93 lumina motor swap

does the color of the connectors designate anything?

Re: 93 lumina motor swap

I'm about to leave work, so I'll jump on my computer at home to see if you figured it out. I have a W-body haynes manual at home that may be more specific to your car, as at work here, I only have ones for the J bodies and A-bodies.
