Keyless Remote Programming

This past summer I bought a used 2000 Beetle. Lately I've been having problems with the remote (not unlocking or locking doors). I tried changing batteries and that did not help. Instead of buying a new one from a dealer I bought one off of EBAY. The person I bought it from did not send any instructions on programming and said that I should go through an automotive forum. If anyone can help me program it without having to take it to a dealer I'd appreciate it. Thanks!!!

Re: Keyless Remote Programming

There is a service bulletin on remotes that quit working. Basically the remote & control module use a rolling code number & can get out of sync with each other. I would first attempt to get the original synchronized by using the proceedure VW lists: Within one minute press the lock or unlock button one time for one second (vehicle won't respond) then lock or unlock the car with the master key. If it still doesn't work then you will need to use a VAG scanner as the other proceedure (in your manual) requires at least one working remote.
