built custom enclosure, now subs dont hit at all

ok, i just built a custom enclosure in my car. i took out the spare tire an everything an built up in that. so once everything was done. i turned on the radio. put in one of my bass cds an the bass does not hit at all.. i mean not even close to what it used to. i can have it to the max volume.. an volume 2 before had more bass than that.. i mean literally now im wondering y. i guess my 2 problems could be wires hooked up wrong.. which im almost certain they are. and 2, there isnt enough space in the box for the sub. the specs are this.
old box: 14 x 14 x 10
my custom box: 13 x 13 x 12 on one corner, an 8 on the other. which would average to a 10?

also i had to add to the bottom of the box so its not completely square.

i did try it ported at first, then covered up the hole, an no difference. the boxes are completely sealed, so air leak isnt an issue.

but can some1 show me a diagram of exactly how the wires are supposed to be hooked up from the subs to the amp. i believe the setup now is like one + from one sub is joined with a - from the other. an then put into the positive port. then the other way as well. then on each sub there is a wire that goes from a - to a + an just stays right on the sub when i take it out.

in case ur wondering, the subs are 2 Alpine Type-R 12's (im guessing the 03 model if that makes a difference)
an i have an AudioBahn A800T amp.
i even upgraded to monster cable speaker wire for my subs.

so what do u think my problem is?

my subs right now are hook up in a way that i have yet to see on any of these diagrams. surprisingly they have always been this way an sounded pretty good b4 when i had them in a box. im assuming that hooking them up in a parrelel is the best way to go. so ill hook it up that way tiomarrow an see what happens. btw, my subs have dual voice coils.

my setup now is that one subs negative is with the others positive an then put to the positive on the amp.. then the other subs negative is hooked with the other ones positive an then put the the negative on the amp. then there is a wire on both subs which connects from positive to negative.

So you're getting music but not any bass? Sounds like what I had... bad RCA cables from the headunit.

It sounds like you have each sub wired in series to 8ohm, and then the speakers wired with each other in parallel back to 4ohm. This is good, but the problem is it looks like you have them wired out of phase (one speaker moves out while the other moves in and vice versa). This causes an enormous amount of cancellation, which will pretty much kill any kind of output. What you need to do is wire the + from one speaker to the + from the other (not the -) and then put that on the + on the amp. Do the same for the - for each sub and the - on the amp. Leave the wire running from the + on one coil to the - on the other coil for each of the subs, that's correct.

You want it to look like this:

alright i just wired my subs to parallel an they sound awesome. the way it jus was cant even compare to the way it is now. it hits harder than it ever has

i saw somewhere that u can only run them in parallel if the amp is 1 ohm stable or somethin. an i read that mine was 2 ohm stable. does that mean ill mess up my amp running it this way?

When you wire 2 subs in parallel the final load will be equal to half of the original loads, so if you wire 2 2ohm subs in parallel then yes the final load will be 1ohm and you'd need a 1ohm stable amp. In your case, when you wire each sub in series they're 8ohm, when you wire 2 8ohm subs in parallel you get a final load of 4ohm, which is fine for your amp.

guys on this other site are tellin my not to wire my subs in parallel. i have them wired that way an tonight after 20 minutes the subs went out for a minute.. then came back on, an about 30 minutes later they went out for a minute, an came back on. but i have 2 4 ohm subs ran in parallel. thats still 1 ohm right? my amp is only 2 ohm stable. so i should probably wire them like the diagram u have shown. cuz right now i have them wired like this:

Alright you have them wired in parallel/parallel (each sub is in parallel, then the subs are in parallel with each other), so yes you're at 1ohm. This is not a good idea with that amp. The diagram I posted earlier was for series/parallel, your subs will be at 4ohm if you do that, which the amp will be happy about.
