HELP...1970 Monte Carlo question?
I just bought a 1970 Monte Carlo. It was my neighbors and he had owned it ever sence he moved here.It is in excellent conditon and a GREAT price..so I bought it. It has 90,000 so I thought it was time to breathe some new life into the Montes engine and to my surprise it has a 4 bolt main block!
Sorry for rambeling....My question is 1.Did the 1970 Monte Carlos come with a 4 bolt main? I have been a car-nut forever but I have never been very concerned about matching numbers (ie) Body and Motor numbers but now I am. Just what numbers match, is part of the block numbers also in the VIN? 2.How do I check for matching numbers? Thanks Everyone this is a GREAT site keep up the good work |

Re: HELP...1970 Monte Carlo question?
From what I can remember,GM used 4 bolt main blocks in passenger cars through the early '70s. Then when the government started to require vehicles to meet certain fuel economy standards, and other requirements, they went to 2 bolt blocks. They continued to use 4 bolt main blocks in trucks after discontinuing use in cars.

Thanks 97venture owner......... and that is great site Bolt, thats kind of what I have been looking for. I haven't been able to get back to the motor to get the engine number yet I will get it this week I'm diying to find out if my car came with the motor that I have (ie) 350 4 bolt main block. If it did come with the 4 bolt motor that I kin of have I have a small problem.....My plan is to buid a 383.... So.....do I...
1.Use the 350 4 main block that came stock in the car, bore & Stroke it to the 383? 2.Buy another 4 bolt block and build the stroker out of it and save the orginal motor to rebuild later to keep with the 1970 Monti Carlo 350 4 bbl this car is VERY stock also in great shape? This sounds like one of the questions for a poll. Do you think there much differance in value...probaby not much worth worring about. Thanks for yalls help. |
