Unhappy Someone please respond to this...

As you all may know i recently bought drvie shafts for my car... the CARDONE company sent me the FWD CV shaft (Driver side) for my AWD car... but they got the passanger side one right.... but a day after installation the tranny had a consistant drip of fluid.... so the conclusion is that the tranny seal is broke and needs to be replaced, but in order to do that... the drive shaft needs to come out... well.... here is the problem CARDONEs drive shaft looks like this... http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...pe=945&ptset=C...... as you can see there isn't a spot to pry off to get it out of the tranny..... I called the place, and spoke to a tech, he said that you have to pry it out..... and he didnt specify in how when i asked... he said just like the old one do to this one.... Well if anyone has done driveshafts before you can tell there is nowhere to pry off... keep in mind i dont want to damage the shaft or the boot... so someone please help if you have any ideas.... no idea is to stupid to be menchend, trust me, out of desperation i wanted to tie a rope to the shaft and just pull..... so... thanks in advanced
Aaron

Re: Someone please respond to this...

Those look just like stock, it should be easy enough to pry on it. I'm assuming you mean the passenger side by the pics and by the fact that the drivers side just slides out. Hard to tell the way your post is written. Also note that we would call those axles, and the driveshaft is the long shaft from the tcase to the rear end, just so we are all using the same terminology

You would pray against the big cup that is right up against the axle seal. Its sometimes tough to get a pry bar in at the right angle but its doable.

Re: Someone please respond to this...

yeah, just get a little prybar in there enough to get it moved a little and then get a bigger one to pry it the rest of the way off. but do not just pull on the end of the shaft, you're chancing ruining the inside of the boot (terminology slips my mind, the "yolk" maybe?) but don't pull on the shafts.

Re: Someone please respond to this...

i went to your house you aren't up, and the axle just doesn't "slip out" and the design is a much more radical change to the cup you are talking about that is closest to the tranny seal... there isn't really anything to pry on that wont break anything, maybe i am misunderstanding what your saying so don't take this negativly... but thank you for the feed back

Hey MexRocket, how did your screeching belt thing go? So, I replaced my clutch about three weeks ago and had the same problem getting my shafts out. I have the stock ones and the one you ordered looks pretty much stock to me. But anywho, when I went to pull my driveshafts, I couldn't get the cup off the tranny. I actually ended up pulling the shaft apart (the inner boot was broken in two and put boot grease all over my engine bay ) but leaving the cup in the tranny. A pry bar did not work for me. It is extremely difficult to get anything in there. I think it is that dam clip on the end of them. I believe I used a combination of a screwdriver and a breaker bar to remove it. Good luck man!

Re: Someone please respond to this...

Well after lots of trial belts with the altenator, i decided to buy a reman altenator.... the old one that was in there made a churping noise when you spun it, must have been a bad altenator....i don't know if thats the problem, but most likley is. The car isnt running due to the huge pain in the ass probem of getting that shaft out.... how did you end up getting it out with a screwdriver and a breaker bar? i don't really want to damage the shaft becuase its the replacment one lol.... thanks for asking about the progress of the altenator though

I think I may have gotten lucky and the screwdriver slid in enough for me to pry on it. I tjust kept trying to get it off by taking the breaker bar and prying, then taking the screwdriver and trying to find an opening to get it into. If your really desperate, you could get a 6-7" 3/8 extension and put it through the driver side opening of the tranny and knock that shaft out from the inside. I am not a fan of that method, but I hav eheard that it worked. It's up to you.

Alright here are some pictures of the problem, at first i thought it was just and issue of gripping the cup on the cv shaft but now (as you can see our "invention") we had a really good hold and it still wont come out, i think the goddamn company fucked up both sides and sent the wrong ones. Any ideas would help, mex, ted and i are all stumped and mex keeps bitching

Re: Someone please respond to this...

It's a little hard to tell from the pics but the cup actually goes into the transmission so you can't get a pry bar in betweeen them. My misguided theory is that the splined end went in too far and the little retaining ring went farther then it should and can't be pulled back out. I used my huge muscles and ended up breaking Captain dipshit and his sidekick's "special" tool and the thing still wouldn't budge.

Can't you put a tire iron with a point on the end and hammer it into the small gap and I think it will pop out enough to really rip on it.
